Rafael Mattos dos Santos obtained his Honours Bachelor (2004) and Master’s (2007) degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto. Rafael was the recipient of the 2003 CSChE Silver Medal at the U of T. In 2013, he obtained a Summa Cum Laude Doctor of Engineering (PhD) degree in Chemical Engineering from the KU Leuven in Belgium. From 2014 to 2017, Rafael was Professor in Applied Chemical and Environmental Sciences at the Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning (Brampton, Ontario, Canada).
Since August 2017, Rafael is Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering at the University of Guelph (Guelph, Ontario, Canada). Since 2009, Rafael is registered as a Professional Engineer of Ontario.
Rafael's has attained academic and industrial expertise in the following areas: Carbon Capture and Storage; Computational Fluid Dynamics; Geochemistry; (Bio) Hydrometallurgy; Materials Characterization; Membrane Technology; Microfluidics; Mineralogy; Multiphase Flow; Process Intensification; and Waste Management.
