About Me
François Muller has worked for over 25 years in the field of marine chemistry, especially on the analytical and physical chemistry of trace metals in seawater. He obtained his PhD from the University of Rhode Island (USA) in 1988 and subsequently spent 9 years at the University of Southampton (UK) investigating the geochemical behaviour of trace metals, nutrients and inorganic carbon in shelf seas and estuaries. He took up a lectureship in marine and analytical chemistry at the University of Bergen (Norway) in 1997. While in Bergen he worked closely with marine microbiologists to explore how trace metal speciation related to algal and bacterial metabolism in coastal environments. In 2005 he returned to the UK as a senior researcher in marine biogeochemistry. There he concentrated his efforts on land-ocean interaction studies, in particular the role of aquatic colloids and nanoparticles in the transport and cycling of dissolved iron. He took up the faculty position in chemical oceanography at Qatar University (Qatar) in September 2015.
